We wake up after a cold night, I think there even was a little frost<\/p><\/div>\n

And we’re on our way again, the first part of the trip is a lot of going uphill, which is tiring<\/p><\/div>\n

Eventually we arrive at Lake Kaniere<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"

To the left is Hans Bay, to the right Sunny Bight<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"

The lake feeds the Kaniere River<\/p><\/div>\n

The trail continues with the Kaniere Water<\/a> Race Walkway<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

Here the water race continues above ground<\/p><\/div>\n

Tall trees here<\/p><\/div>\n

My saddle is starting to hurt me, time to get off the bike for another rest<\/p><\/div>\n

The Kaniere River<\/p><\/div>\n

Where we had yet another rest<\/p><\/div>\n

Now we are close to Hokitika<\/a>, this is looking back to where we came from<\/p><\/div>\n

Bridge over the Hokitika River in the distance, Hokitika itself is just to our right<\/p><\/div>\n

Custom House<\/a> on Gibson Quay, Hokitika<\/p><\/div>\n

Sunset Point<\/p><\/div>\n

The trail now leads to the centre of Hokitika, which is handy because we’re hungry and can do some shopping<\/p><\/div>\n

But first I stretch my back<\/p><\/div>\n

And Rachel reenacts a scene from that<\/a> movie<\/p><\/div>\n

After a tasty Subway I have an ice cream as well<\/p><\/div>\n

And we’re on our way again, Mahinapua Creek Rail Bridge<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n

Mananui Tramline (Mahinapua Walkway)<\/p><\/div>\n

Lovely cycling here<\/p><\/div>\n

Remnants of some forestry experiment with lots of different kinds of trees<\/p><\/div>\n

Damn Hard Work, that also describes our side trip (Picnic Point Track<\/a>) from the bicycle trail to Picnic Bay, which is a walking track, not a cycling track, it basically meant carrying the bicycles all the way to Picnic Bay<\/p><\/div>\n

But it was worth it, there was exactly one little spot where the ground was flat enough to pitch a tent<\/p><\/div>\n
