Thailand Day 1 – Christchurch to Phuket

Just before the whole COVID madness I bought an underwater housing for my camera. which I intended to use during a diving holiday in Thailand but alas, it all had to be postponed. The time has however finally come, I’m going back to Phuket! It’s an early rise to fly – unfortunately – with Qantas, here I’m waiting for the ckeck-in

Christchurch airport only has a few shops, there isn’t much to do

But hey! What’s that!? For weeks I’ve been trying to get my hands on this bad boy but it wasn’t available anywhere! But here, at the airport they sell it. Madness! So I bought it

Sydney Airport, everything is stupidly expensive here

My connecting flight to Bangkok is in 3 hours, that’s a long time to wait at this rather boring airport, it’s definitely not Changi here

Bangkok Airport, looking a lot nicer here

But here too I have to wait over 3 hours, at least I got the chance to give my WISE card a try, it worked, I can definitely recommend it when going abroad

I was killing time by visiting shops at the airport here and came across this beauty… Seriously, who names these things?

Finally, I’ve landed at Phuket Airport, for the first time I have booked accomodation using booking.com, it earned me a free taxi from the airport, nice! I wasn’t sure if it all would work out but lo and behold: I’m expected!

It takes another 30 minutes or so of waiting in this hot humid place before a bunch of us get directed to a minivan that takes us to our destination, which is Patong for me this time
