Yesterday I started with the Earnslaw Burn Track, this is the view looking back not long after I started, Lake Wakatipu in the background
The first park of the track is through forest, forest and some more forest
But eventually the forest ends and I get my first view of the Earnslaw Glacier
The track continues along the ice cold Earnslaw Burn
Lots of small waterfalls
That all end up in the Earnslaw Burn and eventually in Lake Wakatipu
Getting closer
And closer
Almost there
Yes, finally there, this was the closest I could get to the glacier
I tried to get on the ice you see there but that wasn’t possible (without the right gear)
Anyway, I made it, yay!
Nice place to pitch the tent too
I mean, that’s an awesome view isn’t it?
Same view in the middle of the night, it was mighty cold though
This morning
And I’m on my way back out again
Looking back
And once more through the seemingly endless forest
Almost at the car again
And who is also at the car park!? Philip! I met him just a few days ago during another trip and by coincidence met him here again, which was very fortunate as he still had a yummie (Whittaker’s) chocolate bar of mine in his fridge. Om nom nom!
Map of the track, I continued way beyond where the red line stops though, almost to the glacier
Lake Wakatipu, on the way back to Queenstown
Coronet Peak, where I made a flight with my paraglider a little later
View towards Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu
