Yesterday we went for an overnight hike, this is the view from the Rakaia Gorge Road towards Mt Hutt (in the snow)
Not far from Lake Coleridge village we park the car, nice view of the mountains I normally fly over
Early on in the track, it’s well marked, we’re going to Tribulation Hut
Rachel with a full backpack
It’s been too long since I did this
One of the mountains of the Mt Hutt Range, I think it’s Steepface Hill
Even when there are no orange poles the track is clearly marked
What a day!
Cows keeping an eye on us
Without the sun it’s getting quite chilly and we still have a long way to go
Can you spot the hut? Dead center of the photo, light gray. Not far to go now
Though we first have to cross the Swift River
In the hut. It’s winter. It’s cold!
Nice clear sky with stars and a moonlit hut
Us trying to sit still during this 20 second exposure
This morning, after a cold night: rolled oats for breakfast
We decide to walk further south towards Cookies Hut before heading back
We wasted a lot of time trying to find a place to cross the Swift River without getting our feet wet, in the end we took out boots off, crossed the river and put the boots on again, wet boots suck
Cookies Hut! We made it. Unfortunately no cookies in the hut
At least this one has a fireplace, unlike Tribulation Hut, not that it’s of much use to use as we’re just having a rest here
Time to head back
Back towards Tribulation Hut, Cookies Hut in the distance
Rachel doing very well
We grabbed the rest of our stuff that we left in Tribulation Hut, put it in our backpacks and are now on our way out
Stunning views
Redcliff Saddle
Out final descent back to the car
Nice pics. It was the night of the eclipse and so so cold
